Sébastien Arrighi has been invited by Carré d’Art – Museum of Contemporary Art to take over the Foster Wall. A photographic installation composed of both previously unseen and older images from various regions explores the presence or absence of water. Images with a documentary style engage in dialogue with others that are more intimate and poetic.
The artist brings together several series created in geographically distant regions, making water a key element in the relationship between humans and their environment. From landscapes around the Mediterranean (Lebanon, Spain, Greece, France) to the transformations in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the tensions of a Pacific archipelago, each image explores how an environment shapes bodies, postures, and narratives.
Sébastien Arrighi, born in 1992 in Ajaccio, is a photographer and the founder of the Mascarone Lab festival. A graduate of the École supérieure d’art d’Aix-en-Provence, his work draws inspiration from his Mediterranean roots and a particular focus on island lifestyles. In 2021, he presented Era Ora at La Compagnie in Marseille. In 2022, he published Shivers with Poursuite Editions with support from the CNAP, followed by Franc Jeu in 2024 with GrandPalais RMN Editions. As the recipient of a residency grant as part of Bienalsur 2023, he spent time in Riyadh, where he exhibited Desert Rose at Fenaa Alawwal, before presenting this project at MUNTREF in Buenos Aires and at the Centre Una Volta in Bastia. In late 2023, he conducted research in Texas on the imagery of the rodeo and the cowboy. In 2024, as the winner of the Photolux residency, he produced Marmo Amore in the Apuan Alps, exhibited at the Palazzo Guinigi in Lucca. Since 2022, he has been developing Ocean Rally in New Caledonia, a project supported by the DRAC PACA and the CNAP.
